SWEET AS SPRING
28th October 2013, 06:44 AMThe sweet smell of spring is in the air my friends, and it was an honour to style this ‘sweet as spring’ dessert buffet for a Hunter Breast Cancer Fundraiser event at Noahs on the Beach. Despite bush fire breakouts, cake wrecks and candy jar breaks, it was an inspirational evening for an amazing cause! Thank you to all the incredible women who I collaborated with to bring this pink beauty to life and who contributed their time and baking for this wonderful fundraiser.
STYLE / DECOR
I just love the colour pink, ever since having my own little girl, pink has been the shining champion of the colour wheel. So I was fist pumping all the way to pink heaven when I started putting together my colour palette. Ombre pinks were the main base palette with accents of greens and lavender to bring in the beauty of a spring garden setting. I love the use of wood and flowers for spring, and thanks to the ever so talented and giving Cheryl from Rosehip Flowers, we created a flower filled dessert table with wooden stump risers, ‘sweet as spring’ wooden fence paling sign, flower beds, flower cake toppers, flower accents and so much more.
FOOD
Like all events, not everything always goes your way, sometimes the natural elements get in the way of a good soiree. This time it was the three layer naked cake that felt the pressure of the fiery furnace of Newcastle’s recent fire outbreaks and was thrust into every corner of the trusty vehicle so carefully carrying it (thanks to the 40degree heat). Luckily, we had a backup plan, and the lovely rustic buttercream barrel cake made by Allison from Wild Rose Sweets and Styling went from being the bridesmaid to the bride within minutes. Allison also kindly donated some beautiful cake pops, marshmallow bites and mini macarons, so so grateful. Jodie from Get Frosted whipped up some of her beautiful cupcakes, mousses and coconut lime cheesecakes – which were gone in minutes! Tui from Mad Midnite Baker created yummy Pink Ribbon cookies, Mara from Fifi La Femme created her divine Pistachio and Raspberry Macaron tower, and lovely Margaux from My Sweeties made her beautiful chocolate coated oreos with fushia pink and lavender flowers.
